Acadec Meet - February 2017

A message from Mrs. London:

I just returned from the Acadec meet and finished tallying the scores of all of our alternates.  (We have a robust team this year with more alternates than competing members.)  We came home today with two big trophies.  We came in second in the small school division overall and first in the small school Superquiz.  We qualified for the state tournament and will be going to M.I.T. to compete next month.   At least one of our students earned a medal in all of the ten events except essay. All nine of our competing members won a medal.  (This is a team first!)  This meet is different from the November meet in that it includes, Interview, Prepared and Impromptu speeches as well as essays. Our highest scorer of the day was senior, Fabienne Dessalines.   The medal count was as follows:

A Students:
Fabienne earned a gold in Interview and Literature, a silver in Overall, and a bronze in Economics and Art.
Brooke von Ehrenkrook earned a silver in Literature.
Jodee Frias earned a bronze in Speech.

B Students:
Laurel Potemri earned a silver in Music and a silver in Speech.
Riley Fahrenholtz earned a silver in Interview
Chris Pham earned a bronze in Music

C Students:
Lailah Tymes earned a bronze in Math (She also had a lot of people asking to take selfies because she was the viral fish drowning girl.)
Tyler Dang earned a silver in Art and Social Science.
Andre Siqueira earned the largest number of medals of the day.  Gold in Literature, Speech and Interview, Silver in Art and Subjectives,  Bronze in Overall, Music, Science.

Total = Twenty two medals and two trophies.

Each school is required to provide at least three judges.  Thank you to Patti McGaffigan (who also judged last year) Jeanne Perriello, Matt Ferro and Mr. London who volunteered to judge the speeches and interviews.

Next week we will compete in the Consolation  Round in North Reading and only the alternates will be eligible for medals.  (The nine main members will be taking the tests just for fun,  like the alternates did today.)
