V. INFORMATION:
A. Several students at AMHS received recognition at the 2011 Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards Competition. Of the 12,000 entries, 5 of our students were recognized with awards: Brittney Austin (12) – Honorable Mention, Ian Campbell (10) – Honorable Mention, Kevin Foley (11) – 2 Honorable Mention, 1 Silver Key, Kristen Hanson (12) – Gold Key, Silver Key, 2 Honorable Mentions, and Kyle Rakutis (11) – Silver Key, Honorable Mention.
B. Craig Malcolmson, Instructional Aide at Avon Middle-High School, is resigning from his position as of Monday, February 7, 2011.
C. Richard Zmudzien has been hired as an Instructional Aide at Avon Middle-High School as a result of the resignation of Craig Malcolmson.
D. Mid-year Status Report of the District Improvement Plan*
E. AMHS has been asked to participate in the filming of a violence prevention video in conjunction with the West Roxbury Court and the Boston Police Department.*
F. Save the date: March 29, 2011, Day On The Hill, The State House, Boston.
G. An anonymous family has provided the second grade at the Butler Elementary School with a one hour rain forest reptile show. Thank you for their generosity.
H. In mid February the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education was in our district to conduct a mid cycle review of our special education programs. Mr. Zinni, Director of Pupil Services was informed that, although we have not received the official report, we have been notified we are in full compliance.
I. The North River Collaborative: The Students Taking Responsibility for Individual Diet and Exercise (STRIDE) grant will provide no cost opportunities for our schools including additional physical education classes and after school fitness activities. As a component of this program we will be gathering activity levels of our students. Parents have been notified of this status collection and have been asked to assist.*
J. Senior student Allison Davis will be representing Avon High School in the Massachusetts Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest on March 6th in Yarmouth, Massachusetts.
K. District Improvement Strategic Planning meeting date changes: A committee to draft the 5 year District Plan will meet on Monday, March 21st & Friday, March 25th. John Nolan will represent the Avon School Committee on this committee.
VI. FINANCIAL:
A. Kathleen McDonald, Coordinator of School Business Services will be present to answer questions regarding Summary of Accounts FY11 Budget.
VII. ACTION ITEMS:
A. A request to refer to Policy Subcommittee a new policy: Grade Placement and Eligibility for High School Graduation of Students Leaving a Commonwealth Charter School and Seeking to Enroll in a District School.

B. A request to refer to Policy Subcommittee a new policy: Presence and Use of Service Animals in Local Governmental Buildings and Programs, Including Public Schools.
