Entrance to the Avon Middle High School
Library
Welcome!
|
Welcome to the Library. Enter here! While there
are actually 7 doors into our library, there is really only one entrance,
found in the front of the school near the office. Come to the
Library often. The library is open every day, before and after school
and during lunch. Check our Library
Hours. During the school day you'll need a pass to visit the
library. Find out how
here. Remember, the Library is a Quiet Zone. Please respect
the rights of others who are trying to study.

 |
Have a book to return? The book drop is that
rectangle on the front (beneath the sign that says "Book
Return"). This is the Circulation Desk. You can
check out books at the other end of the circulation desk.
Behind the circulation desk, you'll see the office of
Mrs. London, our librarian.
She's the one to see when you need help with research--if it's in a book
in our library, she'll find it!

|
The nonfiction books in our library can be found on the
shelves located around the perimeter of the library. They are arranged using the
Dewey Decimal System. For
more info about the Dewey system
Nonfiction begins on the left-hand side of the
library behind the magazines and ends near the biographies.
Our fiction collection can be found on the
bookshelves near the media room. Fiction books are arranged
alphabetically by the author's last name. To find out the author's
name of a book you are trying to locate you can use the catalog. |

|
Make yourself comfortable and browse through a recent magazine.
Unfortunately, at this time magazines do not circulate. To prevent
disappearance, some of the more popular magazines are kept behind the
circulation desk. Just ask for assistance to use these titles.
|

|
The Reference Materials (encyclopedias, almanacs,
atlases etc.) are found at the far end of the library. The
encyclopedias are shelved on the stacks visible as you look into the
library. The rest of the collection (dictionaries, thesauruses etc. )
are on the back side of the shelves and continue on a nearby shelf. These books
cannot be borrowed.
|

|
The library has computers for student use.
Students must abide by the acceptable
use policy. All the computers allow access to the card catalog to
help you find what you are looking for.
|

|
Are you a "people person?" Our biography
collection is located near the circulation desk. Collective biography
(or biographies of more than one person found in a single volume, like Great
American Scientists) are found after the regular biographies.
|

|
Tables in the library are meant for
QUIET study. Sorry, no eating or drinking in the
library. For a complete list of library rules
