March 11 Newspaper press release publicizing scholarship program
March 11  Information packets on all scholarships, instructions and applications given to seniors
March 25 Completed applications with parent’s tax information returned to guidance
April 8 Lists of candidates, applications, transcripts, and winner forms sent to individual
scholarship committees
April 15 Financial Aid award package from your college of choice due to guidance
May 6 Scholarship committees notify Marilyn Malcolmson of winners for graduation presentation
May 20 Benefactors will be notified of winners' names and colleges
June 4 Graduation and awarding of scholarships

Local Scholarships
 

 

  1. NAME:                        Mabel H. Alexander Memorial Scholarship

 

            AWARD:                     One (1) at $500 

 

            OPEN TO:                   Avon High seniors residing in Avon

 

            CRITERIA:                 Planning to pursue a career in education – preference given to special education and/or child development

 

 

  1. NAME:               Avon Boosters Association Awards        

 

            AWARD:                     Three (3) at $400 each

 

            OPEN TO:                      All Avon High seniors

 

            CRITERIA:                  a. Minimum three-year attendance at Avon Middle-High School

                                                b. Plan to attend college immediately after graduation

                                                c. Extracurricular activities

                                               d. Preference given to those students who have volunteered their time to the Boosters

           NOTE:   This scholarship requires an additional form.  See Mrs. Sass.

 

 

3      NAME:                     Avon Co-Operative Bank Scholarships

           

            AWARD:                     Three (3) at $1,000 each

 

            OPEN TO:                   All Avon High seniors

 

            CRITERIA:                  a. Academic achievement

                                                b. Financial need

                                               c. Full-time enrollment in a four year program at
                                                  an accredited college or university.

4.          NAME:                        Avon Education Association Scholarships

 

            AWARD:                     Two (2) at $300 each

 

            OPEN TO:                   All Avon High seniors

 

            CRITERIA:                  a. Preference given to those pursuing a career in education

                                                b. Academic achievement                                                                    

 

5.          NAME:                        Avon Youth Little League Baseball/Softball Scholarships

 

            AWARD:                     Two (2) at $200 each (one for baseball, and one for softball)

 

            OPEN TO:                   Avon High seniors residing in Avon

                                                Avon residents attending other high schools

                                               

            CRITERIA:                  a. Participated in Avon Youth Baseball/Softball

                                                 b. Essay required (minimum 3 paragraphs)

                                                  Topic: "How has playing baseball/softball enhanced your childhood?”

 

 

 6.          NAME:                        Cornelius D. Buckley K of C Scholarship

 

            AWARD:                     One (1) at $200 (payable in Sept.)

 

            OPEN TO:                   Avon High seniors residing in Avon

                                               

             CRITERIA:                 Planning to pursue a career teaching people with intellectual disabilities, a senior with intellectual disabilities, or plan to pursue a career in the medical field.
 

7.      NAME:                        Butler School/Avon Schools Association Scholarship

 

            AWARD:                     One (1) at $500

 

            OPEN TO:                   All Avon High seniors

 

            CRITERIA:                  a.   Academic achievement

b.      Financial need

c.       Must have attended the Butler School for a minimum of one full school year

d.      Essay required. 

Please write an essay about a teacher or coach that has been a positive influence during you education in the Avon Public Schools.

 

 

 

8.   NAME:                        Agnes G. Chapman Memorial Award

 

            AWARD:                     One (1) at $200

 

            OPEN TO:                   All Avon High seniors

 

            CRITERIA:                  a.   Academic achievement

b.      Service to school, family, and community

c.       Participation in extracurricular activities

d.      Financial need

 

 

9. NAME:                        Edward V. Connolly Memorial Scholarship

 

            AWARD:                     One (1) at $2,000 or Two (2) at $1,000 each

 

            OPEN TO:                   Avon High seniors residing in Avon

                                                Avon residents attending other schools

 

            CRITERIA:                  a. Participation in athletics

                                                b. Academic achievement

 

10. NAME:                        Charles H. Francis Memorial Scholarship

 

            AWARD:                     One (1) at $250

 

            OPEN TO:                   All Avon High seniors

                                               

            CRITERIA:                  a.   Academic achievement

b.      Preference given to athlete

 

11. NAME:                        Jacqueline M. Hansen Memorial Scholarship

 

            AWARD:                     One (1) at $300
