Welcome Back

This message is from Paul Zinni, Superintendent of the Avon Public Schools, where our students receive a World Class education to become lifelong learners and responsible citizens in a global society. Our teachers and staff welcomed back students in grades 1 through 12 on Wednesday, August 30 and our first few days of school went very smoothly. This was due in no small part to the hard work and tremendous effort of every member of the Avon Public Schools team.

In addition to thanking the Avon Public School staff for all they did to ensure that the first day was a success, I would also like to thank our town officials for their help and support. Over the summer, Building Inspector Borden and Fire Chief Spurr toured our buildings to make sure they were ready for opening. As in years past, the Avon Police visited the schools each morning to ensure a safe and orderly arrival. Additionally, this year, a number of officers were able to make time to come into the Middle-High School and visit. They toured the building, visited classrooms and even attended a few of Principal Stockwell’s Welcome Back expectation assemblies. A sincere thank you to Chief Martineau and Deputy Chief Bukunt for making this happen. During the weeks and months ahead, we will continue to explore new opportunities for our two departments to collaborate. One of the many strengths of the Avon Schools is the strong support it receives from the community.

Finally, I would like to thank our bus drivers and transportation coordinator for their tireless efforts to pick up and drop off our students each morning and afternoon. We are aware that during these first few days some of our students arrived late to school and home. This tends to happen during the first few weeks of a new school year as the drivers adjust to new routes, and students get used to their new bus stops. Although the team has been working on rectifying this situation, with Tuesday’saddition of kindergarten, we expect that it will take a few more days before the routes are all set. We thank you for your patience and understanding on this matter. Please know that a safe and successful start to the school year is our top priority.

I look forward to all this year will bring to our students, faculty and staff.
