National Hispanic Heritage Month

Today we honor Ellen Ochoa, she was the first Hispanic woman to go into space. She was also the first Hispanic and second woman to become the Director of NASA's Johnson Space Center!

7th and 8th Grade Washington DC Trip:

There will be a virtual meeting for anyone interested in registering for the 7th and 8th Grade Washington DC Trip on Tuesday, Sept. 28th at 7 PM. The trip is in June, but you will need to register for the trip after the virtual meeting. If you have any questions, please see Ms. Conrad or contact her by email. (dconrad@apps.avon.k12.ma.us

Athletics:

The Avon Girls Soccer team won 5-2 @ Bristol Aggie. Emma MacDonald scored 2 goals while Brynn Gaynor, Noelani Milord and Mikayla Gomes also scored a goal a piece. Ellen Le also played well for the Panthers. Avon is now 2-1 on the season.

Student Council:

Student Council is accepting applications for representatives in grades 9-12. Please check your email for more information.  Applications and recommendations are due by Friday, 9/24. Questions? See Mrs. Pyne

High School Student Council will meet right after school today in Mrs. Pyne's room. All high school students are welcome to join us (and all class officers and e-board members are required to attend)!

Ms. Conrad will have the first Middle School Student Council meeting for 7th and 8th grade students today  at 2:10 PM in Room 130. Come to the meeting and find out how to join.

Attention freshmen and sophomores: Are you interested in running for office? Mrs. Pyne is now accepting candidates for freshman and sophomore class executive board. E-board members will attend Student Council meetings and work closely with their advisers to help make decisions about activities and fundraisers for their class. Nomination forms have been emailed to you and are due by Friday, October 1.

Traffic flow change:

Starting Monday, 9/20/21 the morning drop-off location for high school students will change to the back entrance of the Middle-High School off of Page St. This will help to ease the congestion in the front of the building. High school students who drive must park at the public library across the street and will enter the building through the front lobby.

MIT:

MIT is hosting a 9-week long Biotechnology in Action free virtual lab program for high school students for the Fall 2021 semester. Applications are currently open and will close on September 26th. For more information, see Ms. Shepley in Room 232.

ACES:

ACES, Avon's Coalition for Everyone's Success will be having its first meeting this year for every student interested in ACES, SALSA, and Team Rival.  It will be in the library at 2:15 starting Monday the 20th.  If you have any questions please see Mrs. Isidor in the ACES office room 101. 

MBTA Charlie Cards: 

MBTA charlie cards are now available.  Please come to the office, if you need one. 

Reminder:  Emergency forms are due.  If you have them, please drop them off at the office.
