National Hispanic Heritage Month:

Today we honor Rita Moreno, she is the only Hispanic and one of few performers to have won an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy and Tony awards over her 70 year career. Her notable acting work includes supporting roles in the musical films Singin' in the Rain, The King and I, and West Side Story. In 2004 she was awarded by President Bush the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America's highest civilian honor. In 2015, she was awarded a Kennedy Center Honor for her contribution to American culture through performing arts. She was awarded the Peabody Career Achievement Award in 2019.

Athletics:

The Holbrook Avon Bulldogs improved to 3-0 against Atlantis Charter on Friday night.  Marlow Narcisse opened the game with a 70 Yard Kick off return.  Brady Sheehan also got a touchdown and two 2 point conversions.  Nick Chong had a 55 yard touchdown run and Jean Mesalon finished the game with a 25 yard touchdown to put the Bulldogs up 44-6.

Friday the Girls Varsity Volley team team played a game against Bishop Connolly playing 4 sets Avon lost. Great team effort to all.  Kylie Anderson with 8 serving points and a few blocks, Agatha DaSilva had 6 serving points for Avon. Today’s practice is at 2:30.        

The girls JV Volleyball team played Bishop Conley on Friday and lost 2-0, Valerie Salawu and Manelle Narcisse each had 3 serving points. Practice today at 2:30.

STEM Club:

Attention 7th and 8th graders! Do you want a chance to explore science and technology through experiments and activities. Do you want to know why satellites don't fall from the sky? How rockets fly? How to get energy from a potato? Do you want to learn how things work and find ways to make things better? Are you curious about how the world works and how you can change it? Come learn about the STEM club Wednesday after school in Room 300.

National Honor Society:

National Honor Society Applications are due Monday, October 4th. If you have any questions, please email Ms. Howe. 

School Pictures: Grades 7-11 - Picture day is scheduled for October 5th

Lifetouch should be sending an email to each family with instructions on how to order pictures, but anyone who needs an order form can pick one up in the office. 

Notifications:

For any student planning to take the SAT on November 6th, the registration deadline is October 8th. There are currently seats available at local schools in the area. This will be one of the last opportunities to take the SAT before the regular decision deadline. Please see Mr. O'Donnell or Ms. Cartwright if you need a fee waiver.

If you are a Senior who is planning on applying either Early Action or Early Decision, please make an appointment with Mr. O'Donnell as soon as possible, if you have not done so already.

Jordan's Furniture is hosting two Enchanted Village Job Fairs in the month of October. If you are over sixteen and looking for work, please see Mr. O'Donnell for more details. 

MBTA Charlie Cards: 

The MBTA Student Reduced Fare Charlie Cards are available for students in the main office.
